Car rolls off road by canal in Black Country

A car careered off the road and overturned next to a canal embankment in the Black Country today.

It was one of a number of emergency incidents that also saw a man suffer burns to his hands in a house fire and a blaze at a block of flats.

Fire crews from Oldbury and Smethwick were called West Bromwich Street in Oldbury at 7.54am to deal with the overturned car. The driver had left the scene.

The crash closed the junction of Oldbury Road, West Bromwich Street and Roway Lane for around half an hour. Meanwhile, firefighters were called to a house in Rutter Street, Caldmore, Walsall, at 6.30am where a man suffered burns to his hands. And a blaze broke out in the rubbish chute of the 10-storey Alfred Dunn House, Oldbury.
