Daniel Jones, aged 27, faces the charge following the discovery of Aston University student Da In Lee, 22, at his home in Grace Road.

The jury was sworn in at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday to try Jones and the case was opened this morning.

Jones, a former student at Wolverhampton University, denies murder.

Mr Gordon Aspden, prosecuting, told the jurors: "The case is about the death of Da In Lee – she was 22, she was a student at Aston University.

"She and the defendant had been in a relationship and the prosecution's case is that the defendant murdered her on Easter Sunday night last year by applying pressure to her throat and neck."

Mr Aspden read out a list of witnesses who will give evidence at the trial.

The names of police officers and doctors involved in the case were also given.

The trial continues.
