With just days until the opening of this huge Tesco, all that remains is for the construction site barriers to come down and Hednesford’s rebirth can begin.
As these pictures show, the centrepiece of the town’s £50 million transformation is ready to open on time on Monday. Tesco’s ‘Every little helps’ slogan has even been installed in huge letters along the glass frontage of the sprawling new supermarket.
Dozens of workers’ cars and vans can be seen in the car park of the store, as they put the finishing touches to the building ready to welcome its first customers.
The 80,000sq ft shop, which is part of the revamp of Victoria Shopping Park, has created 220 new jobs with 94 going to long-term unemployed from the area.
Store manager Richard Betts, aged 35, said: “We have been inundated with people interested in getting a job. There was a high quality of applicants and I am delighted with my
new team. In this time of economic uncertainty, it is great that we are able to create jobs and help people into work.”
