Charlotte Frazier-Doody was seen by neighbour Keith Arblaster who had earlier spotted the 36-year-old "putting something in a wheelie bin", a murder trial jury was told at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Mr Arblaster, one of the first at Bill Davis' home following the attack, told the hearing: "It was like a horror movie.

"I went into the hall and looked into the back room. I saw Bill lying on the floor.

"He was still gasping for breath.

"As I came out of the room I saw Charlotte coming halfway down the hall.

"I said 'Stop, you are not going to see this' and cleared her out of the front door."

Mr Arblaster had been asked to go into the house in Hobley Street by his mother-in-law Rita Millington.

Mrs Millington had a key to the property and had been asked to check on Mr Davis.

Paramedics could not save Mr Davis, who served with the Royal Navy during the war, and was certified dead at his home around 7pm on April 1.

Mr Arblaster lived next door to drug user Frazier-Doody on the opposite side of the street, the court has heard.

Mr Davis died from multiple blunt head injuries but the murder weapon had not been found, revealed prosecutor Mr Peter Grieves-Smith QC.

He alleged that Frazier-Doody's claim of taking food to the victim earlier in the afternoon on the day he died was not true.

Later on the day Mr Davis was killed Frazier-Doody rode away from the street on her moped, the court heard. Frazier-Doody denies murder and the case continues.
