Crowds formed long queues outside the city's ICC from 9am yesterday as performers waited patiently to show off their skills.

As well as local talent, performers travelled from as far afield as Oxford, Leicester and Wales to take part in the audition.

The auditions are set to continue at the venue until tomorrow with members of the programme's production team looking for standout talent. Among those gathered for the auditions was Darlaston singer Laura Avery who was ready to wow the team with her performance of Just the Way You Are.

The 14-year-old, of Memory Lane, auditioned for last year's show at the NEC and was hoping it would be second year lucky.

"I have been practising for the audition and I am really looking forward to it. I have been singing for a few years now." Cabaret act The Pin Ups, which has members from Walsall and Aldridge, also queued up for a chance to take part in the show.

Its members are Carrie Anne McNally, from Birmingham, Kate Stallard and Francesca Charlton, both from Walsall, Kelly Ashford, from Aldridge, and Laura Fleming, from Hollywood, Worcestershire.

Laura, aged 21, said they were be performing Cheryl Cole's Call My Name but in a 1940s-style.

"We have been performing together around two years now. We are all really excited about taking part and have been preparing for this audition. It is very exciting."

Also performing for the judges was 11-year-old Brandon Clarke, from Coal Pool Lane, Walsall.

The youngster, who attends the St Francis of Assisi School, was performing Justin Bieber's Boyfriend for the show's production team.
