But the monster burger which has become the signature dish of a Black Country restaurant was no match for a professional food eater.

American TV star and well-known speed eater Randy Santel flew across the pond to take on the monster burger at Smokey's in Station Street, Walsall.

With more than 3lbs of beef, 12 rashers of bacon, 12 onion rings and a large handful of fries, the monster burger has defeated anyone who comes up against it.

But Mr Santel completed his food challenge in 44 minutes and 45 seconds.

Anyone who can eat the £29.95 burger in under an hour gets it free. Chef and part owner Jonathon Caddick said: "It was nice as a chef to see someone finally finish it. I've cooked hundreds of them before but nobody has ever done it.

"He said it was one of the most beautiful burgers he'd ever eaten but also one of the hardest challenges." The restaurant has recently introduced a hot dog measuring more than one metre long.
