The unit in Wolverhampton's Mander Centre has been empty since the collapse of Woolworths in January 2009. It will reopen as a Discount UK branch on October 27.

Spokesman Chris Edwards Junior said: "Wolverhampton is a great city and we're very pleased to be opening a new store here, creating 40 new jobs for the area. We look forward to welcoming customers in Wolverhampton."

City council regeneration chief Peter Bilson said it was good news that the site was reopening.

The Woolworths store in Kidderminster is one of the few in the region remaining empty.
