Teen pair in court after Smethwick knife death

Two teenagers were appearing in court today in connection with the murder of Black Country youngster Ben Morutare.

The 17-year-olds, both from the Ladywood area of Birmingham, were due before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court.

They are both charged with violent disorder and one of the youths also faces a charge of perverting the course of justice.

Ben, aged 16, of Holden Crescent, Coalpool, Walsall, was stabbed in the leg outside the Smethwick Home Guard & Old Comrades Club in the early hours of July 28.

He later died at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has previously appeared at Sandwell Magistrates Court, via video link, accused of his murder. His case will return to court on October 29.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to call 101.
