Jaguar Land Rover hosted a star-studded gala to mark the launch of the world’s first all-aluminium 4x4 with a rock star reception.

Olympic gold medallists Victoria Pendleton and Zara Phillips were among a host of stars invited to London’s Richmond Park last night to see the diesel-electric hybrid Range Rover.

The car-maker says it is the first time such technology has been used on a ‘true’ all-terrain off-roader.

A concert enjoyed by a 500-strong A list crowd helped to signal a major new £370million investment by the luxury car giant. Dire Straits pop musician and Range Rover owner Mark Knopfler led the celebrations.

The stylish new model already has a customer waiting list with David and Victoria Beckham expected to snap up the fourth generation Range Rover.

The car maker says the new model will be made at its Solihull factory bringing an economic feel good factor to the Midland motor industry.

In addition the company has announced it has announced it has taken on 1,000 new jobs to cope with demand for the new model.

It is hoped the benefits will also be felt at the company’s new engine plant being built at the i54 on the Staffordshire and Wolverhampton border.

The model will be distributed to some 170 countries with the Far East key.
