Wolves were today hoping to announce the signing of Poland international midfielder Slawomir Peszko on a season-long loan.

Manager Stale Solbakken has moved quickly to fill the void created by the pending departure of Michael Kightly by agreeing a move for the 27-year-old Cologne midfielder or right-winger.

Wolves have confirmed Peszko, who has 24 caps, underwent a medical at Compton yesterday afternoon and that talks have been held with Cologne with a view to completing a loan deal.

But the signing of Peszko, who arrived in England on Saturday, is understood to hinge on the £3m sale of Kightly to Stoke.

Kightly had his final training session at Compton yesterday and said his farewells but still has to agree personal terms and pass a medical with the Potteries club.

Peszko, 27, was signed by Cologne in January 2011, just four months before Solbakken was appointed at the Bundesliga club.

A previous medical, prior to his signing for the German club, revealed Peszko has four kidneys. But the unusual condition hasn't affected his football.

He has scored twice in 42 games for Cologne, including 32 appearances in their relegation from the Bundesliga last term.

Peszko netted 22 times in 112 games for Wisla Plock between 2003-08 – with 16 of them coming in 2007-08 – and scored 11 in 68 appearances for Lech Poznan from 2008-11 before moving to Germany.

The midfielder was a Polish Cup winner in 2006 and 2009 and a finalist in 2003, while he won the Polish Super Cup in 2006.

But he courted controversy in April when he and team-mate Marcin Wasilewski were excluded from Poland's squad for Euro 2012 after a night out in Cologne led to an alleged drunken exchange with a taxi driver and the pair being held in police custody.
