Superstar boyband The Wanted were today announced as the official torchbearers for the Olympic Torch's visit to Essington tomorrow.

Heartthrobs Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes will carry the torch through Essington.

It is hoped that thousands will line the streets of Newtown to catch a glimpse of the chart-topping stars at around 11.40am.

Essington councillor David Clifft said it was “fantastic” news for the area.

“I think it is brilliant. It is a fantastic opportunity for fans to see them,” he said.

No its not great.

what would have been great is if the lollipop man outside St Johns school was given the torch to carry.

I thought the reasons for carrying the torch was to honour local people, not help boy bands sell CD's.

Natalia

so happy they are doing this, it is making me so proud to think 2 years ago hardly anyone knew of them and now they are doing this, it's amazing!

it's not to help them sell cd's they don't have any current albums out right now or singles to help them in the charts there has been plenty of other celebrities doing this in other cities -mines included so its not just local people and they've been involved with the olympic torch relay since the start of it since after it they are doing the olympic gig down in birmingham anyway.

but yeah maybe it isn't the best idea to have jay hold it...
