A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead at a flat in Tividale.

A block of flats was today cordoned off following the death of the 60-year-old, while two men were being quizzed by detectives on suspicion of murder. Police and paramedics were called to the flat at 11.50pm yesterday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene in Baldwin Close.

His injuries are not yet known and a post mortem will be held.

Forensics officers were today scouring the ground-floor flat for clues while people living in the cul-de-sac spoke of their shock.

Mother-of-two Sharon Chambers, aged 31, said: "I am absolutely shocked.

"I didn't hear anything last night at all. I woke up this morning and saw the police but I have no idea what happened."

Her neighbour, retired Stephen Watt, 61, who has live in the road 32 years, said: "I had the shock of my life when I came out this morning and saw the police.

"I never heard a thing last night." Pensioner Robert Oliver, a grandfather of six, said: "This is normally a quiet area, it's a nice little cul-de-sac. We never have any trouble.

"This is the first bit of drama there has ever been. It's terrible. When we got up this morning we guessed it was something serious."

Oldbury councillor Mahboob Hussain, whose ward covers Baldwin Close, said: "This is a very quiet area. It is very shocking for any community to have something like this happen, and we just have to hope that if any criminal activity has taken place the culprits will be caught."

Two men, aged 46 and 50, were arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in custody helping detectives with their inquiries. Witneses or anyone with information should call Force CID at Harborne on 101.
