Miniature trains were steaming around the tracks at Warley Model Railway Club's first open day of the year.

Members welcomed more than 250 people to the event held at their clubhouse in Pearsall Drive, Oldbury.

There were 12 different layouts showing their treasured models in a combination of replica and fictitious scenes.

Visitors were also able to pick up a bargain at a second-hand stall where members were selling their unwanted railway items and there were also a variety of trade stands.

There will be another open day on May before the club's Warley National Model Railway Exhibition show at the NEC in Birmingham in November.

It will take place on November 24 and 25.

Club spokesman David Moorhouse said yesterday's event has been a success.

"We were very busy. We had youngsters from about four or five right up to 80-year-olds. It's a good chance for us to let people see what we are all about and it's a bit more relaxed than the show at the NEC," he said.

The club meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm. The website is www.warley-mrc. org.uk
