Punter wins £20,000 with £2.90 bet
Wednesday 22nd February 2012, 11:00AM GMT.
A punter won almost £20,000 with a £2.90 bet on four horses running at Wolverhampton Racecourse.
The man, who does not wish to be named, put a £1.45 each-way accumulator on Flying Applause, Muhandis, Copper Canyon and Lisselton Cross which all ran in separate races on February 9. After each one won, he walked away with £19,532.
The man from Sevenoaks, Kent, placed the bet online with bookmakers Coral.
Simon Clare, spokesman for Coral, said it was a rare occurrence for a punter to win so much with such a small initial bet.
He said: “All four of his horses won, and for a £2.90 bet he won a pretty big prize.
“People try and place these bets all the time but not many are successful.”
The racecourse’s managing director David Roberts said: “We offer our congratulations to this man.”
Flying Applause had odds of 6-1, Muhandis was 12-1, Copper Canyon was 20-1 and Lissleton Cross was 6-1.
