Fake designer clothes worth thousands of pounds have been seized from Walsall Market.

More than 300 counterfeit goods were found at the stall in Bradford Street following a tip-off to the council.

The authority’s trading standards officers swooped to seize boxer shorts, scarves, hats and socks.

Fake trademarks were used include Ugg, Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein and Armani and had they been genuine would be worth £4,000.

Officers carried out the raid on the Wednesday pitch.

Councillor Zahid Ali, cabinet member for communities and partnerships, said: “This is an excellent result.

“We want to maintain the good reputation the market has with the public and we will not tolerate counterfeit goods being sold in Walsall.

“This action should be taken as a warning to other traders to make sure any brand named goods they sell are genuine.”

Police are regularly carrying out patrols of markets around Walsall to stamp out any illegal trading of fake goods. More than 200 illegal DVDs were seized last month at Walsall’s Bescot Market.
