Office space at The Public is filled by three tenants
Friday 17th February 2012, 11:00AM GMT.
Office space at West Bromwich arts centre The Public has finally been filled – more than three years after the venue first opened.
Media consultants Digital Native Academy, game developers 3dnative, and the LearnPlay Foundation – which uses video games to engage with youngsters – are now sharing a 6,000sq ft space on the fourth floor of the £72 million building.
Linda Saunders, managing director at The Public, based in New Street, said: “We are delighted the space is filled.
“The LearnPlay Foundation came to speak to us in December and we thought straight away it fitted perfectly with the business model we are developing.
“And because these are three companies that focus on IT, they are very relevant to a building that has always been focused on digital and IT activities.”
More than 200 apprenticeship opportunities have been created as a result of moves.
Mrs Saunders added: “One of the main aspirations behind The Public is that it would provide new opportunities in West Bromwich and Sandwell for employment.
“There are so many young people looking to find opportunities out there and apprenticeships are a really good way of getting youngsters into the world of work.”
Bosses at the arts centre had been close to securing a deal for the office space last year but talks fell through.
Sandwell Council representatives have also welcomed news of the move by Digital Native Academy, 3dnative, and the LearnPlay Foundation.
Speaking on his online blog, Sandwell Council’s chief executive Jan Britton said: “You couldn’t find a tenant more “right” for the building.
“Great news.”
