Man arrested over Betty Yates murder

A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of retired Bewdley teacher Betty Yates, police said today.

Detectives arrested a man, who does not live locally, at his home before taking him to a police station in North Worcestershire for questioning.

Mrs Yates, aged 77, was found stabbed to death in her secluded cottage, off Dowles Road. She had also been beaten with her own walking stick.

West Mercia Police said the man was arrested on Thursday night and has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mrs Yates was found dead on January 4.
