Revamp go-ahead for West Bromwich’s Oak House

Around £1.4 million worth of restoration work will be carried out on West Bromwich’s historic Oak House barns in moves which bosses hope will attract thousands of extra visitors.

Sandwell Council planning bosses have given the go ahead for the project, which includes the creation of a new visitor centre.

The work will be jointly funded by Sandwell Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund. It is hoped the revamp will help attract an extra 30,000 visitors a year.

Offices, currently in the servants’ quarters in Oak House, will be relocated into the barns. This will allow visitors to the main building to see these quarters for the first time since the house opened as a museum.
