£7,000 bill for Walsall firm Anochrome on waste in sewer
Thursday 26th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Walsall metal finishing firm Anochrome Limited has been fined for pumping trade waste into public sewers.
The company, based in Reservoir Place, admitted two counts of illegally discharging waste into Severn Trent’s network following a prosecution brought by the water firm.
Anochrome was fined £3,200, ordered to pay court costs of £3,726.50 and a victim surcharge of £15.
Wolverhampton Magistrates Court was told samples taken by Severn Trent on May 25 last year revealed that Anochrome had breached its limits for discharging into the sewer.
Severn Trent spokesman Simon Cocks said: “The limits we set to regulate trade discharges are calculated to ensure they do not adversely affect the capacity of our sewage works to efficiently treat sewage.
“Exceeding this consent is not only illegal, it can also damage the sewage treatment process and risk causing harm to the environment.”
Anochrome declined to comment.
