Police today revealed they have made 10 further arrests in connection with the riots which rocked parts of the West Midlands last summer.

Officers swooped on addresses in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley and Smethwick yesterday as part of their efforts to bring those involved in the disorder to justice. The raids were the latest big push as part of the force’s major inquiry, which has now seen 770 people arrested across the region.

Acting Detective Inspector Julie Woods said today: “As long as there are still outstanding suspects in relation to the disorder, work will continue behind the scenes to bring them into custody.

“If you were involved and have not yet been caught, the best thing you can do is hand yourself in; otherwise we will be coming for you.”

Among those arrested during yesterday’s raids was a 38-year-old man from Walsall, who was brought in on suspicion of criminal damage. He was released without charge.

A 30-year-old man from Dudley was arrested on suspicion of burgling JD Sports in Birmingham. He was bailed pending further inquiries.

A 24-year-old man from Wolverhampton and 17-year-old youth from Smethwick were also arrested and bailed. Six other people from Birmingham were also detained. Three of them were charged, two bailed and one released without charge.

Act Det Insp Woods said most of the CCTV footage of the disorder during August in Wolverhampton, West Bromwich and Birmingham, as well as footage submitted by members of the public and the media, has now been viewed by officers.

It is believed that the majority of suspects have now been arrested, although a number have not yet been identified. Police released a further nine images of suspects involved in the Wolverhampton riots last week. Images of those and offenders from Birmingham will remain on the force website indefinitely.
