Firefighters discover cannabis farm
Tuesday 24th January 2012, 11:00AM GMT.
Firefighters made a surprise discovery as they uncovered a cannabis farm while tackling a blaze at a house.
The drugs factory was found inside an end of terrace property in Ashes Road, Oldbury.
Smoke was seen pouring out of the house and the roof of the attic, where dozens of cannabis plants were being stored, was alight when crews arrived at around 5.40pm yesterday.
Neighbours said they heard a small explosion before seeing flames leaping out of the roof of the house.
It took around 20 firefighters around an hour to bring the fire under control.
A man inside the property when the fire broke out, escaped unharmed and was later arrested.
Nursery nurse Jessica Webb, who lives next door with children, Bradley, 12, and Alice, four, said she was shocked when she saw the smoke. Police are investigating the discovery.
