Stourbridge’s Crown Centre taken on by Tesco

Supermarket giant Tesco has officially taken over Stourbridge’s Crown Centre – and workers moved in immediately to pave the way for a new £50 million store.

Blue barriers have been installed around the square in the middle of the centre ready for the development.

The noise of drills greeted shop and office workers as they arrived in the town today, setting the scene for months of disruption, during which a multi-storey car park will be demolished and an underground one built.

The project, aimed at breathing new life into the town centre, will create around 400 new jobs.

Councillor Angus Adams, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This multi-million project marks the most significant regeneration scheme in Stourbridge for many decades.”
