A man was stabbed as horrified shoppers looked on during a row in a Wolverhampton city centre store.
The 20-year-old suffered "several" wounds to his back in the attack by three men at Foot Locker in Dudley Street at 4pm yesterday.
Assistant manager Nathan Blake said today that an argument broke out in the shop. "I wasn't in the store but I have been told what happened by staff that were," he said.
"There were a couple of people arguing with one other man, then they just attacked him. They were all asked to leave but then they just attacked the man, who was on his own. They had knives and kept on stabbing him. I was told he was stabbed about 16 times.
"It was fortunate that it was late on and it was quiet.
"The man who was stabbed managed to stay on his feet, and the police and paramedics arrived really quickly."
An alleyway next to the store that runs between Dudley Street and Market Street was cordoned off by police following the attack.
The victim, who is from Wolverhampton, was taken to New Cross Hospital and later discharged.
