Strictly Come Dancing’s Brendan Cole waltzes into Birmingham
Friday 23rd December 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole today revealed banter with his brother Scott is at the heart of his new stage spectacle Live and Unjudged, which waltzes into Birmingham in January.
The feisty New Zealander, who partnered Lulu in this series of Strictly, will star in his own dance extravaganza alongside fellow professionals, backed by a 14-piece band and two singers.
And he says his one-upmanship with his fellow dancer brother Scott is at the centre of the show’s appeal.
Brendan told the Express & Star: “The fact that he’s on stage with us, taking the mickey out of me, is brilliant and we try and get one over each other.
“It’s the kind of thing that gets me competitive and lets the audience have a chance to get me know me a bit better because we have a bit of a question and answer session as well.
“I’ve never really spent time in Birmingham before but each audience is different and I get a real buzz out of people enjoying what I am doing and reacting however they want.”
For the hot-headed bad boy of Strictly, family has become even more important in the recent past following the death of his father Eddie in October last year.
The 35-year-old reformed womaniser is also planning to start a family with his model wife, Zoe. Brendan added: “I’ve got lots of different plans next year, including the Brendan Cole Dance Academy which is getting children active and I’d like to write another show.
“But children of my own are all part of the plan.”
The new show will see the audience dancing in their seats as Brendan talks them through salsa moves as well as involving fans in question and answer sessions on this year’s Strictly series.
On the final, which more than 12 million people tuned into watch, Brendan admitted: “I was quietly rooting for Harry and Aliona.
“Chelsee was a riot and Jason was great too and you could have easily understood if they had won too.”
* His show will visit the New Alexandra Theatre on January 23.
