Man facing jail after attack in Wolverhampton street
Tuesday 20th December 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
A man from Wolverhampton is facing jail after admitting an attack in the city centre that saw his victim kicked and battered with a traffic cone.
Daniel O’Sullivan was chased into Convent Close where he was knocked to the ground and kicked.
The victim, who is from London and in his 30s with relatives living in Wolverhampton, was then repeatedly battered with a heavy traffic cone during the assault on July 23 and is still in no fit state to be interviewed about the street attack.
Owen Osagie, aged 28, from Lower Villiers Street, Blakenhall, pleaded guilty to causing Mr O’Sullivan grievous bodily harm with intent when he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday.
He had previously denied the attempted murder of the man and the plea to GBH with intent was accepted by prosecutor Michael Riley.
He told the court: “The victim is extremely unwell.
“The police have been told that there will be no chance of them speaking to him about the incident before February.”
Mr Jasvir Mann, defending, said Osagie “wants finality as quickly as possible” and would have preferred sentence to have been passsed straight away.
But Judge John Wait called for reports to determine whether the issue of dangerousness should apply in the case. No details of the circumstances surrounding the offence were given to the court but they will be outlined in full when Osagie returns to be sentenced on January 16.
Police said the attack appeared to have been motiveless.
Mr O’Sullivan is reportedly beginning to show signs of improvement in a London hospital where he remains under treatment.
