MP Aidan Burley was fighting for his job today after he attended a stag party in France at which his friends allegedly chanted Nazi slogans.

The Conservative Party has launched a "full investigation" after the Cannock Chase MP – a senior aide in the transport department – hit the headlines.

Mr Burley issued an apology today, saying: "There was clearly inappropriate behaviour by some of the other guests and I deeply regret that this happened. I am extremely sorry for any offence that will undoubtedly have been caused."

Conservative Party spokesman Richard Holden said: "There will be a full investigation."

Mr Burley was among a group of 12 revellers celebrating the stag party of an accountant who wore an SS uniform to the celebrations, at a French ski resort.

Most of the group, including 32-year-old Mr Burley and the groom-to-be, are believed to have been educated at Oxford.

It is alleged several members of the party – excluding Mr Burley – repeatedly chanted 'Mein Fuhrer' and 'Hitler' and toasted 'the Third Reich'. The 37-year-old stag was pictured giving a Nazi salute outside the venue, Restaurant La Fondue at Val Thorens in the French Alps on December 3.

Mr Burley, Parliamentary Private Secretary to Transport Secretary Justine Greening, was today facing calls to resign from his post.

Cannock Chase Council leader, Councillor George Adamson, said today: "I think Aidan should resign as Parliamentary Private Secretary.

"He has let the people of Cannock Chase down by failing to disassociate himself from this behaviour."

Earlier this year Mr Burley stepped in to defend Councillor Jodie Jones, who manages the MP's constituency office, after the 23-year-old was criticised for Facebook pictures which showed her drinking and clubbing in a bikini.
