Nearly 400 pupils gathered on the school's drive to see him chauffeured past as he waved through the window.

The prince was then given a tour of the school to see the work that had been carried out over the past five years. He spoke to staff before being treated to a drama display and two short musical pieces performed by the school's choir and orchestra.

The arts centre, which cost £500,000, is the latest development at the school after a £1million building including classrooms, science labs and craft rooms was completed last year.
