Britain’s Got Talent’s Jean Martyn back home for lights switch-on

Monday 28th November 2011, 11:00AM GMT.

Jean with L-R: Katherine Randall 14 from Bridgnorth, Scarlett Rose 13 from Coven (Standeford), and Holly Thomas 14 from Wolverhampton, they all go or went to school in Brewood and have been given the Service Above Self award.

It is safe to say that whatever else Brewood musical superstar Jean Martyn gets for Christmas, she will have had a season to remember.

Last Christmas the 60-year old organist and pianist, who shot to fame this summer as a finalist on Britain’s Got Talent, was busy playing up and down the country. But this year she will not only be a household name, but she will have a new CD and DVD on sale across the UK.

And Jean revealed she has secured a place on the next series of Celebrity Big Brother – albeit she will be playing and not a housemate – when she turned on the Christmas lights in Market Place, Brewood, last night.

She then performed a medley of rock ‘n’ roll songs and Christmas favourites on her electric organ before hitting the switch to light up the village alongside St Dominic’s High School for Girls pupils Holly Thomas and Katie Randall.

The 14-year-olds were invited to join Jean on stage for the big switch-on for earning Service Above Self awards.

Jean also revealed to the Express & Star that her festive season will include a performance in front of Prince Edward, as well as Dame Vera Lynn and Strictly star Mica Paris, at St James’ Palace on December 8.
