Tesco trials clinics for mothers-to-be

Shoppers will soon be able to get a health check when they pop into a new £27million supermarket which has opened its doors in the Black Country.
A Dudley doctor’s surgery has set up new weekly clinics at the Tesco Extra at Burnt Tree Island where they can have free health and wellbeing checks.
The store is also running a midwife-run healthy pregnancy clinic for mothers-to-be and reflexology sessions with advice on baby health – both of which are being trialled by Tesco for the first time.
It is the latest in a series of new innovations at the supermarket after a beauty salon and Domino’s Pizza store were launched at the site which opened on the Dudley/Sandwell border last month.
The health and well-being checks will be run by senior nurses and GPs from the Kates Hill Surgery on Wolverton Road in Dudley. They will take place every Wednesday between 11am and 1pm and shoppers can have their blood pressure taken, their height and weight measured and their blood sugar levels checked. They can also get advice on how to have a healthy lifestyle and stop smoking.
The pregnancy clinic runs every Monday between 10am and 2.30pm where people can get advice on issues including morning sickness and indigestion.
Sessions which involve reflexology and baby health are held once every two weeks on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Puneet Janjua of Tesco said: “We are delighted to welcome the new NHS clinic to our Dudley Extra store which we think will bring real benefits to the local community. Having a clinic within the store will make it easier for our customers to be healthy whether it is having their blood pressure checked, getting advice on managing their diabetes or seeking practical advice and support to stop smoking.”
Christine Maxfield, practice manager at Kates Hill Surgery, added: “The store has provided us with a dedicated room where people can come to talk to our highly experienced health care professionals and get help.”

Are Tesco attempting world dominence. Is there anything that they aren’t into now. It’s fabulous that they are providing so many jobs in the local areas but how many local businesses are they closing down at the same time because the locals can’t compete with them. Bittersweet
