Thursday 24th November 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
Spectacular fireworks signalled the start of the festive season in Wolverhampton as panto stars flicked the switch on the Christmas lights.
Thousands of people cheered in Queen Square last night as Linda Lusardi and husband Sam Kane performed the honours, joined by Fireman Sam and city mayor Councillor Bert Turner.

Families watched in delight as fireworks were launched from the top of Beatties before Father Christmas and his reindeer parade arrived. Revellers packed the streets from 5pm to take in the additional attractions including a giant slide, hot dog stands, children’s rides and other fanfare.
Sam and Linda will help form the cast of the Grand Theatre’s Snow White production when it kicks off on December 10.
Sam, who has starred in Brookside and Coronation Street, is appearing at the city’s Pantomine for the fourth year. He told the Express & Star: “It’s great to be able to flick the switch to a fantastic turnout.”
Linda added: “It’s a special evening and really helps to get Christmas started.”
She added: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s Panto – sales are going up already on last year.”
Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Bert Turner, said: “This evening has seen a great turnout to help bring in Christmas for the good people of Wolverhampton.”
