Woman injured in hit-and-run on crossing
Wednesday 23rd November 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
A woman suffered serious head injuries when she was struck by a car on a crossing in a hit-and-run collision in Walsall, causing rush hour chaos for drivers.
The 30-year-old had been using a pelican crossing in Bloxwich Lane when she was knocked down shortly after 4.30pm yesterday. It happened yards from the junction with Churchill Road near the Bentley M6 motorway bridge.
Drivers were diverted away from the scene after police closed Bloxwich Lane between the Reedswood Way island and the Churchill Road traffic lights.
The woman is in a ‘serious’ condition today at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Sgt Lee Nicholls said: “The collision happened on the pedestrian crossing.
From what witnesses have told us, we believe the car may have been an old-style Ford Fiesta.” Witnesses should call 0345 113 5000.
