US Air Force contract is won by Goodrich
Tuesday 22nd November 2011, 5:00PM GMT.
Aerospace giant Goodrich today announced it has landed a multi-million pound deal to maintain landing gear systems for the US Air Force.
The firm, which employs 1,100 people at its base on Stafford Road, Wolverhampton, has been chosen to provide maintenance services for the air force’s fleet of Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.
It is also aiming to recruit more engineers in Wolverhampton to meet a rising work load fuelled by a raft of big contract wins.
Goodrich is the original equipment manufacturer of the Globemaster III landing gear system.
It is also one of the largest landing gear overhaul maintenance suppliers in the industry.
Spokesman Martin Butler said today: “It is a multi-million pound deal and will be supporting the Boeing landing gear for a long time, likely several decades.”
Meanwhile he confirmed the company was still looking to expand its workforce in Wolverhampton in the final quarter of the year.
Earlier this year the firm aimed to recruit 250 new employees, with more than 200 people taken on by the company in the last year.
