Redundancy plan for 2012 will cost Dudley Council around £3million

Around £3million will be spent by Dudley Council next year to cover workers leaving through redundancy.

The local authority has launched the second year of a redundancy programme, which will see around 200 positions go by April 2013.

Following an announcement in January, bosses have already shed more than 400 jobs this year as part of a bid to save £22million.

The move is part of wider plans to axe 800 jobs over the next three years. The cash will be used to help cover the cost of pensions and payouts to workers as they leave.

Councillor David Blood,  cabinet member for finance, confirmed the cost and said: “The existing three-year budget strategy allows for £3m of redundancy costs for 2012-13.”
