Car parking charges to be cut in Walsall town centre
Friday 28th October 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Car parking charges in Walsall town centre will be cut from next week, it was revealed today.
A three-month trial of lower parking rates will be launched on Tuesday following complaints from fed-up motorists and traders.
Council leader Mike Bird said the authority had listened to critics and given them what they wanted and would review the scheme after the trial.
However, the scheme could cost council bosses £20,000 unless visitors and shoppers come to the town and make the most of the cheaper rates.
The trial will see day-long charges in the poorly-used Ward Street and Dudley Street car parks reduced from £5 to £3.
Four-hour parking fees in all town centre car parks will also be reduced by £1 to £2.80.

still a rip off for the overtaxed motorist.

No pleasing some people. They do something to look at addressing town centre parking and still you complain.

Still won’t address competition from out of town centres with free parking, or the Internet. Example: I was going to pop into Walsall the other week to visit a shop at the Crown Wharf centre on the way home from work. I knew the shop had stock but I wasn’t desperate for this item, but the convenience appealed. Unfortunatly, it was only 5.30pm and I didn’t want to pay the minimum £1 charge just to pop in and pick up what I needed. So I went home and spent the £70 with an Internet Shoppe that was both cheaper (even with shipping) and arrived the following day.
