Walsall’s Stein Bar gets £70,000 revamp after licence dispute

A Walsall bar, banned from playing music after blaring out songs without the right licence, has been taken over with a £70,000 revamp now under way.

Stein Bar manager Chris Smith was banned from playing music by the High Court after being caught by inspectors. He has now resigned and the venue is being rennovated.

Mr Smith was found out by a music industry inspector, working for music royalties collecting organisation Phonographic Performance Ltd. He visited the bar in July, with the High Court ban implimented earlier this month. Bar owner Ken Towe, has now taken over the job of manager.

Mr Towe, who also runs the adjacent Lyndon House Hotel, said: “Mr Smith has resigned as site supervisor and I have taken on the role.”
