£4.5m to kick-start big Dudley revamp
Thursday 27th October 2011, 11:29AM BST.
A £4.5million grant to kick-start a five-year regeneration project in Dudley was today given the thumbs-up by finance bosses in Europe.
The money, from the European Regional Development Fund, will fund a joint access to Dudley Zoo, the Black Country Living Museum and Dudley Canal Trust from Tipton Road; a new arrival centre; a major revamp of the zoo’s outdated entrance, as well as a number of other projects.
The money has been matched by Dudley Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Dudley Zoo, to make a £10m pot helping the long-awaited scheme, designed to double visitor numbers to one million a year, get off the ground.
Regeneration boss Councillor Angus Adams said he was “absolutely delighted” by the announcement.

It’s all well and good, but I would rather see a decent retail development than any of this. And £4.5 million is a very small amount of money.
