Walsall ring road cuts crashes by 60pc

The number of car crashes in Walsall town centre have plummeted by almost 60 per cent following the completion of the £23 million ring road, figures revealed today.

Almost 90 people were injured after 65 accidents in the three years before construction of the main congestion-busting stretch.

However, in the first two years of the multi-million pound route from the Arboretum junction to Pleck Road being finished there were just 28 crashes with 44 injuries. And figures released today show a drop in serious accidents.

Walsall Council chiefs have backed the “marked fall” in accidents and casualties which help vindicate the scheme which was almost a year behind schedule.

Thats because everyone avoids Walsall like the plague since the ring road was built. Traffic around Walsall at rush hour is a joke, some days it can take over 20 minutes to get half mile through Walsall traffic.

I’m surprised when considering how many near misses I’ve seen on that arboretum traffic junction, its so confusing for people that have never used it before.

What appalling journalism. No wonder our cuntry is in such a state. Just have a second look at those statistics.

65 crashes in three years before, but 28 in only TWO years afterwards. Why not study only the first 5 minutes after opening – hey presto, no accidents at all and a 100% reduction.

65 in 3 years gives an average of approximately 22 per year. 28 in 2 years gives 14 per year. That’s a reduction of 8 per year. 8 out of 28 is approximately 29%. NOT 60%. Congratulation, you are 100% wrong.

29% is still impressive, but not quite as staggering as 60%.

In addition, I see that the Council feel that this reduction vindicates the £23million expenditure. In the first year of opening, the scheme saved an average of 8 accidents. That’s almost £8million per accident.
