Bilston mother and son rescued by lifeboat

Wednesday 26th October 2011, 11:29AM BST.

A mother and son from Wolverhampton were rescued after venturing into the sea in North Wales on two inflatable rings in breezy conditions.

The pair, from Bilston, had been in the water half an hour before a lifeboat rescued them yesterday.

The two were picked by an inshore lifeboat from Rhyl which saved them half a mile off nearby Towyn.

Lifeboat coxswain Martin Jones said: “The mother and the son were very lucky to survive with the water temperature, the distance they were off the shore, the strong offshore winds and ebbing tide. We strongly advise anyone going offshore with inflatable toys to tether a line before going out.”
