Wolverhampton rioter turned over to police by mother jailed
Tuesday 25th October 2011, 11:30AM BST.
A rioter turned over to police by his mother after she spotted him among a mob pictured in the Express & Star was today starting a six-month stretch in jail.
This image of Cassius Taylor, aged 17, being confronted by riot officers in Wolverhampton city centre can be published today after magistrates lifted a ban on printing his picture.
As well as frog-marching him to the police station, his disgusted mother Carol Rankin took a bag containing the cap and hooded top he was wearing at the time.
As Taylor was locked up at Wolverhampton Youth Court yesterday, bench chairman Paul Eckett told her: “This court commends you for your actions.
“It must be one of the hardest things a mother has ever had to do. I can only imagine how hard this is for you today. We have heard he is a good lad – but he did what he did.”

Obviously what these looters did was wrong and of course they should be made to stand up and face the court for their actions, but I would like to make people aware of the full facts of law and order in this country and how its applied.
In 2008 Chris Huhne, the Lib Dem home affairs spokesman, asked the question, how many SERVING police officers have been convicted of serious crimes and the answer is below.
1,063 serving police officers have criminal convictions according to figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.
The data, obtained by the Liberal Democrats, showed 1,063 officers with criminal records, including 59 for assault, 36 for theft and 96 for dishonesty. Other offences include battery, fraud, perverting the course of justice and forgery and recent figures prove its not getting any better.
How can we expect these people to respect law and order in this country when it’s quite possible that the police officer processing the offence, could themselves possibly also be a convicted criminal?
These people convicted of these offences have had to stand by and watch as bankers walk away, free from any sort retribution for their actions, bankers were loaning out money that they didn’t own, that is fraud and the government should have ensured that the bankers were subjected to the same punishments as these people have had to face up to.
But of course the governments were not going to take action against the bankers because it could have had repercussions on our MP’s, they could also have been made to stand up in court and be made to admit they were also willing to break the law!!!!!!!!
Only the working class have to pay for their crimes in this country!!!!

And this diatribe has WHAT to do with the story of a mother whose conscience has driven her to make such a difficult decision?

Well done that mother; pity there aren’t many more parents who are prepared to give their children tough love – yes it;s a lot harder than turning the blind eye or giving in for an easy life, but it will pay dividends in the end.
It;s about time the younger generation understood that if they want “respect” and if they want their “rights” they’ve got to shoulder the responsibility that comes with them.

Jim does respecting law and order mean you have to respect the Police? I was brought up to know the difference from right and wrong and have brought my children up in the same way. Although I commend this lady for turning in her son I would ask her why she didn’t know where he was in the first place. I knew exactly where my teenagers were and also have complete faith in them not to get involved in anything like this because not only have they been brought up to respect the law but they have been brought up to respect other people and their property. Coming from a working class background they have also been taught that you have to work for the things you want in this life and not to expect it handed to you on a plate.

he is a 17 year old young man, his mother isnt going to, and shouldnt be expected to know his every move. And if i was a betting man, id bet you didnt really know exactly where your teenagers were, or what they were doing all the time ;-)

Sure I commend a mothers courage, but in a time where the lives of the young are dominated by the media showing celebrities with the finer things in life and a future showing no jobs, do people really wonder why there was so much greed in the riots?
I have to say I disagree with the parents decision. After spending a sentence inside a prison he will return to a life where colleges will not want to educate him and people will not want to employ him, all because of the stigma of the riots. In that time in prison though he will make friends, as we make friends anywhere and not all of those friends will be of good heart and moral standing. Where does that leave this 17 year old boy?
You lot should honestly look to the prevention and the truth of the matter rather than whittling on about the courage of the mother, because when his sentence is over. None of you will even remember he existed.
