Hunt on for owner of neglected horse
Thursday 20th October 2011, 11:30AM BST.
A hunt is under way for the owner of a neglected horse and her foal after police removed them from open land in Bilston.
Officers rescue the bay mare, known as Milly, using powers under the Animal Welfare Act after she had been checked by an equine veterinary surgeon.
The animal has overgrown feet and is suffering from a painful condition called laminitis that causes lameness.
RSPCA officers had been closely monitoring Milly for a number of days while making extensive enquiries into who was responsible for her care. She was seized from land off Batmans Hill Road and put in the care of the RSPCA care last Wednesday.
The common ground is regularly used to tether horses however Milly and her foal were from a group of loose horses roaming free in the area.
The RSPCA and local police are joining forces to run a series of special events in Bilston giving tips of horse and pony welfare welfare along with advice. Anyone with information can contact Inspector Jackie Hickman on 0300 1234 999.
