Metal thieves thought to have been armed with a shotgun tried to steal thousands of pounds of scrap metal from a yard in Brownhills today.

Armed officers and two police helicopters were called in to search for the gang and four suspects later arrested.

Raiders broke into WW Commercial Ltd and piled up a huge mound of copper, batteries and metal cable.

The men were spotted scaling the fence after they approached from a nearby field just before 12.30am.

Four men, aged 25, 33, 34 and 42, were today helping officers with inquiries.
