Jobs to go in restaurant shake-up at museum
Monday 3rd October 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Up to seven jobs could be axed at the Black Country Living Museum under a shake-up of catering services at the popular tourist attraction, it has emerged today.
Bosses at the Dudley site say they want to make restaurants and cafes more “financially sustainable” in the coming months.
A consultation will be held with staff about the potential job losses, say museum bosses. Details of any food operations which could be closed as part of the plan have not yet been revealed by the museum, based in Tipton Road.
Bosses say other departments and operations at the museum are not under threat by the proposals.
The heritage museum has seven food and drink outlets throughout the 26-acre site.
These include the Bottle and Glass Inn in the village and two fish and chip shops.
New for this year was Hobbs’ Courtyard which offers a waitress service.
There is also the Canalside Cafe and Rolfe Street cafe bar and a smaller “Grab and Go” sandwich bar.
