Creditors at The Public are owed thousands
Monday 3rd October 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Eighty five businesses remain out of pocket following the collapse of the company that formerly ran £72 million Black Country arts centre The Public.
Most are still owed more than half what they were originally owed. The Public Gallery Ltd – which used to run the gallery inside the complex – went into liquidation in February 2009, before Sandwell Council was forced to take on the building.
New figures from Companies House show 85 unsecured creditors including senior directors, artists, creative companies and staff said they were still owed a total £306,766, but liquidators could not find the leftover cash to repay them in full, leaving the majority more than half of their money down.
In total, they were paid back £147,922 before the company was dissolved in July last year.
