Forty three people have been charged with being involved in riots in the West Midlands after being brought in by police, it emerged today.

It comes after more than 80 officers yesterday swooped on the homes of people believed to have been involved in the widespread trouble throughout the region last month.

Most of the suspects were held on suspicion of being involved in the looting and chaos in Birmingham city centre at the start of August, and two were arrested following the disorder in Wolverhampton.

Police have warned more arrests will take place after scrutinising CCTV and photographs of the attacks.

Detectives today revealed they had made 14 new arrests yesterday and had also recalled scores of others to be charged.

The 43 have been charged with offences including burglary and handling stolen goods, and will appear in court in the next few weeks.

Officers from the force’s Operation View team carried out raids in Birmingham, Walsall, Bilston and Oxley in Wolverhampton.
