Featherstone warehouse plan sparks objections
Friday 30th September 2011, 11:28AM BST.
Dozens of objections have been made against the transformation of an old Second World War munitions factory in South Staffordshire into warehousing, it has emerged.
Residents fear the plans by defence and security giant BAE Systems to redevelop the former Royal Ordnance munitions factory in Featherstone will lead to hundreds of extra cars using the village and cause traffic problems.
BAE has previously admitted the project would generate 330 extra vehicles on surrounding roads between 8am and 9am each day.
South Staffordshire Council’s regulatory committee will decide on outline plans for warehousing and light industry on the site, in Cat and Kittens Lane, on October 14.
BAE, which is shedding almost 3,000 jobs nationally, wants to prepare the 37-acre site for development before selling it next year. It is estimated that up to 1,250 jobs could be created at the site.
