EastEnders actress Glynis Barber gives an exclusive video interview about her role in Alan Ayckbourn’s comedy, Season’s Greetings, which comes to the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton, at the end of November.
The Dempsey and Makepeace actress – who played Glenda Mitchell in EastEnders – plays Belinda, the bored wife who, over a Christmas break for the family, falls for a young writer, Clive.
He and Belinda are in a passionate clinch under the Christmas tree, but are discovered when they set off the electronic toys and lights.
It is Barber’s first stage play for five years. She is best known for her television work which began with the final series of the cult show Blake’s 7, followed by the mini-series Jane, based on the famous wartime comic strip.
But she has an impressive theatre record, including the sought-after role of Mrs Robinson in Terry Johnson’s stage adaptation of The Graduate with Andres Williams as Benjamin.
Recently Glynis Barber has launched a new show with the TV channel Body in Balance, accompanied by a DVD on her anti-ageing secrets.
After the Season’s Greetings tour ends, she’s off to Tunbridge Wells for her first season in panto, as the Bad Fairy in Sleeping Beauty.
* Season’s Greetings by Alan Ayckbourn starring Glynis Barber, Denis Lill, Ricky Groves, Matthew Bose, Jenny Funnell and Christopher Timothy, is at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton, from November 21-26. Box office: 01902 42 92 12
