Tenth flood in four years hits city flats

Over 100 furious residents were left without power and water after the block of flats where they live was hit by its tenth flood in the last four years.

The seven storey 64-flat Market Square development in Wolverhampton flooded over the weekend.

Three flats on the fourth floor and five further flats in the block were affected by the latest burst that happened in precisely the same spot as one that caused disruption on September 10, depriving all residents of power and water over Saturday and Sunday.

Fire crews turned off the power and water for safety reasons after being alerted at around 6pm on Saturday.

A water supply was restored through a stand pipe in the underground car park at the flats block late yesterday afternoon, 23 hours after the burst.
Power returned around the same time but the lift was still not working today because of suspected water damage.
