Street left in darkness as metal thieves strike

A West Midlands street was plunged into darkness after metal thieves stole copper cables which supplied power to street lights.

It is the second time in weeks that metal thieves have struck in Livingstone Road, Bloxwich. Six street lights and two illuminated signs were affected after cabling was targeted during the latest raid on a cabinet in the street.

Bloxwich East councillor Shaun Fitzpatrick spotted the blackout while driving along the street.

“It’s utterly disgraceful that metal thefts are happening and for thieves to stoop to knocking out street lights,” he said.

Inspector Chris Ellerton from the local policing team is urging anyone who has seen any suspicious activity to call Cannock police station on 0300 123 4455.
