Arson attack on derelict industrial unit
Friday 23rd September 2011, 2:19PM BST.
Twenty firefighters were this afternoon tackling a blaze at an industrial unit after arsonists set fire to an abandoned caravan inside.
Thick clouds of black smoke poured from the derelict building, in Inkerman Street, Heath Town, after the blaze started at around midday.
Arsonists are believed to have set fire to the abandoned caravan and the flames quickly spread to a number of tyres.
Firefighters used a platform to douse the flames.
The unit has been the scene of a several fires in recent months.
Group commander Mick Birch said: “As soon as these buildings become empty and insecure they can attract anti-social behaviour.
“This delays these four crews from responding to other emergencies in Wolverhampton.”
