Staffordshire villagers in poll switch
Wednesday 14th September 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Voters in four villages near Stafford face having to choose an MP for Lichfield in future under changes proposed by the Boundary Commission.
Great Haywood, Little Haywood, Colwich and Hixon would be shunted out of the Stafford Parliamentary constituency.
Stafford’s sitting Conservative MP Jeremy Lefroy said he would not be opposing the changes. He described the potential loss of Haywood and Hixon as a “wrench” but said he was not going to start worrying now about the boundaries for the next election.
The Conservatives took the Stafford seat from Labour at the last election, and their vote is believed to have been boosted by strong support from the rural villages.w seat covering Newcastle and Stone is implemented.
